How We Met

We met in January of 2010 in the Virgin Islands. Virgin Gorda to be exact. Katie, making quite a complicated trip, was attending the wedding of two friends. Joe was working aboard a yacht docked at the island. Being a small island, Virgin Gorda has limited evening entertainment: an expensive formal restaurant, and an energetic, fun-filled bar. Of course, we both chose the bar.

Fairly early in the evening a friend introduced Katie to Joe. The more we talked, the more we had to talk about! Not being able to stop talking kept us together for the next few days and forced Katie to extend her stay (although she insists she stayed for the weather.) Having such an amazing setting at our disposal, we spent the following days glass-bottom kayaking, snorkeling and swimming, and hiking almost all of Virgin Gorda!

Engagement Story

This past February, Joe arranged with a farmer friend in Harpswell, Maine to hide the ring in the chicken barn at our favorite local farm. When we went to the farm to collect eggs for breakfast, a friendly chicken was keeping the ring box (and several eggs) warm. It took Katie a little while to figure out what was happening, but once it became clear, Katie jubilantly accepted Joe’s earnest proposal. The newly engaged couple spent some time laughing among the clucking chickens before heading home for waffles and champagne.
